Om bhur-bhuvah-svah
Tat savitur varenyam
Bhargo devasya dhimahi
Dhiyo yo nah prachodayat Om …
The Gayatri Mantra called the Maha Mantra is the supreme Mantra of the Vedas. It is the one Mantra that can be commonly chanted by all. It is believed that this mantra purifies the mind; destroys pain, sin and ignorance; brings liberation; and bestows health, beauty, strength, vitality, power, intelligence and magnetic aura.
To me, chanting of the Gayatri mantra (108 times) comes across as an invocation to the complete, infinite self. The self which a microcosm of The Universe.
Om is the awakening of the fourth stage of consciousness – the objective consciousness called the Turiya
Bhur-bhuvah-svah are the three dimensions of our existence – the physical, the intellectual and the emotional. They also connect us to the three states in time – the past, the present and the future.
Tat savitur varenyam is an invocation to the innate life-giving force – the Sun within. The force towards which we grow – heliotropically.
Bhargo devasya dhimahi is projecting the light of our awareness on multiple impermanent egoic identities that we carry for ourselves and seeking to integrate them with that one absolute essence of our being.
Dhiyo yo nah prachodayat is about guiding the light of consciousness to dissolve the mind-made darkness of conditionings and manifesting of The Power Within.
